A Truth That We Often Forget
At the end of our lives, it's not our house, clothes, cars, belongings or job titles that we look back on fondly. Our experiences, memories and the people that we love are what's most important. This is something that we all know, but forget often because of distractions. I'm as guilty as anyone no matter how hard I fight to remember this truth.
Things and the process of getting new things stresses us out, makes us lose sight of what's most important and even causes us to delay (or ignore) what we want to do in life. Unfortunately it often takes a dramatic event that stops us in our tracks to give us clarity on how unimportant those "things" actually are and change our focus back to spending valuable, quality time with our family.
Sunday night's heart-wrenching This Is Us episode was a perfect reminder of that. While watching their house and belongings burn, the Pearson family's only focus was for Jack to come out safely. And even when he did, we were reminded that life can change in an instant.
Don't wait until a tragedy to remember this life lesson. Live it everyday. Spend quality time with the ones you love and do the things that you want to do in life, whether it be travel or not. The memories that you make and the time that you spend together will be what you treasure most.
